Dot NAME Domains

Introduced in 2001, the .NAME generic domain name extension is the sole TLD supposed to be for personal websites only. These domains can be personal or fictional names, aliases and/or other designations people are known by. At the beginning, only 3rd-level registrations were allowed, so if you wished to order john.doe.name, you were supposed to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was loosened and 2nd-level registrations were also allowed. Already bought third-level domains remained operational.
